How to get a medical cannabis prescription
Thinking about medical cannabis and wondering how to get a prescription? Iyos Pharmacy is here to guide you. Medical cannabis can only be prescribed by a specialist doctor, so the first steps are an eligibility check and a consultation with one of our partner clinics. Here’s how it works.

Check your eligibility
Before booking a consultation, find out whether you may be eligible. You may qualify if:
- Your condition is chronic or hasn’t responded to treatment
- Other treatments haven’t worked or have caused side effects
- You’re over the age of 18

Book a consultation with a partner clinic
If you may be eligible, the next step is a consultation with one of our partner clinics. During your appointment, a specialist doctor will:
- Review your medical history
- Assess your condition and symptoms
- Decide whether medical cannabis is appropriate for you
If they decide it is, your doctor will issue a private prescription.

Receive your medication from Iyos Pharmacy
Your prescription is sent securely to Iyos Pharmacy, a GPhC-registered pharmacy. We will:
- Review and verify your prescription
- Prepare your medication safely and accurately
- Deliver it discreetly to your chosen address, signed for on arrival
Our pharmacy team is available to answer your questions and provide clear usage guidance.

The journey starts with a consultation with a specialist doctor on the GMC Specialist Register, the only kind of doctor who can prescribe medical cannabis. Iyos Pharmacy works with partner clinics that can help arrange your appointment, so you can have an informed discussion with a specialist and find out whether medical cannabis is the right option for you. Once a prescription is issued, we dispense and deliver it.

Check Your Eligibility
Not everyone qualifies for medical cannabis. You may be eligible if you have a chronic or treatment-resistant condition, standard treatments have been ineffective or caused side effects, and you are over 18 years of age. We’ll guide you through a simple pre-screening to assess suitability.

Book a Consultation
If you’re eligible, you’ll be referred to a specialist doctor through our trusted partner clinics. In your private consultation, the clinician will review your medical history, evaluate your symptoms and decide whether medical cannabis is clinically appropriate.

Get a Private Prescription
If your specialist doctor decides medical cannabis is suitable, they will issue a private prescription. Only a specialist doctor on the GMC Specialist Register can prescribe it under current UK regulations.

Prescription Sent to Iyos Pharmacy
Once issued, your prescription is sent securely to Iyos Pharmacy, a GPhC-registered pharmacy that dispenses medical cannabis.

Dispensing & Delivery
Our pharmacy team will verify and prepare your medication with care, make sure all legal and safety protocols are met, and deliver it discreetly to your chosen address, signed for on arrival. You’ll also receive clear usage guidance and dosage information.

Ongoing Support & Follow-Up
We don’t stop at dispensing. You’ll have access to follow-up appointments with your clinician, ongoing support from our pharmacy team, and adjustments to your treatment plan if your clinician advises. We’re here to support you throughout your treatment.
